Guorong Wu
Principal Investigator
Guorong Wu (PI) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is the recipient of NIH Career Development Award. His research interests are medical image analysis, machine learning, scientific data visualization, and computer assisted diagnosis. He is interested in the data-driven research to explore neuroscience problems and systematic solution to improve the healthcare in clinic practice. Currently, he leads several NIH and NSF funded research projects include (1) early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease by longitudinal image analysis, (2) longitudinal analysis of the dynamic network disruptions in Alzheimer’s disease, (3) biomarkers across neurodisorders, (4) 3D nuclear segmentation for light sheet microscopy images of mouse brain, and (5) spontaneous pain assessment using deep learning technology.

Post-Doc Research Associate
Dr. Dan is a Post-Doc research associate in ACM lab. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from South China University of Technology, China, in 2023. Her research interests include medical image analysis, computational neuroscience, and geometric deep learning. Her current research project is developing cutting-edge machine learning methods for complex biomedical data.

Xinyu Liu

Xinyu is an undergraduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill, majoring in computer science and economics, with a minor in statistics. Her research interests focus on machine learning applications in studying structural and functional connectivity in the human brain.

Hyuna Cho
Hyuna was a visiting student at ACMLab in 2024 and she is a Phd student from POSTECH. Her research interests span machine learning on graphs, computer vision, and statistics. Specifically, she's interested in solving problems within the medical domain related to medical imaging and brain connectivity using machine learning methodologies.
Won Hwa Kim
Dr. Kim was a visiting scholar at ACMLab from 2023 to 2024. He is an Associate Professor in Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence (GSAI) / Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) / Medical Science and Engineering (MED) at POSTECH. His research is focused on interdisciplinary topics in Machine Learning, Computer Vision and Medical Imaging.
Zhuoyu Shi
Zhuoyu was an undergraduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill majoring in Psychology and Computer Science and minoring in Neuroscience. She is a PhD student at Columbia University.
Mustafa Dere
Mustafa obtained a Master's degree on Computer Science from UNC-Greensboro in 2021. He was working analyzing large-scale light-sheet microscopy images of mouse brain.
Huan Liu
Huan was a Research Assistant at ACM lab. His research focus is developing novel computational model for functional neuroimages.
Zhentao Yu
Zhentao is a PhD student from Department of Biostatistics at UNC-Chapel Hil. He is working on multi-variate statistical model for high-dimension biomedical data, with the focus on Alzheimer's disease.
Junbo Ma
Junbo Ma was a Post-Doc research associate in ACM lab. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Massey University, New Zealand, in 2019. He was working on 3D nucleus instance segmentation on tissue clearing light-sheet microscopy images.
Dehuv Patel
Dehuv joined ACM lab in 2019. He was studying Riemannian manifold theory for functional dynamics.
Elodie Piot
Elodie is the research intern from CPE Lyon, France. She was developing a new data processing pipeline in Slicer which combines the DTI image processing, fiber tracking, and network construction for both cortical and sub-cortical regions.

Dr. Niu joined ACM lab in January 2022 as a postdoc scholar. He worked on functional brain network analysis.
Yutong Liu
Yutong was a phd student in Biostatistics Department at UNC-CH. She worked with Dr. Wu on multilevel brain network analysis from 2015 to 2016 school year.

Dr. Cao was a visiting scholar at ACM lab from 2018 to 2019. Her research interest is image processing and optimization.
Xin Liu
Dr. Liu joined ACM lab in 2018 as a visituing scholar. She first worked in BRIC then moved to the Department of Psychiatry with Dr. Wu in August, 2018. She worked on functional brain network analysis when she was visiting ACM lab.
Yuchao Tang
Dr. Tang was a visiting schloar at ACM lab from 2015 to 2016. He is interested in sparse optimization technique.
Qian Wang
Dr. Wang was a visiting schloar at ACM lab from 2017 to 2018. She worked with Dr. Wu in developing nuclei segmentation method for light-sheet microscopy images using deep learning technique.
Andrew Zhen
Andrew worked with Dr. Wu on graph neural networks from 2020 summer to 2021 when he was a high school senior student. He is now the undergraduate student at Wharton school of the University of Pennsylvania.

Lang is a phd student in the Department of Biostatistics at UNC-CH. He worked with Dr. Wu in developing statistical model for cognitive reserve.
Chuning (Camille) Liu
Camille is currently the phd student in Biostatistics Department at UNC-CH. She worked on GWAS, gene expression data analysis when she was in ACM lab from 2019 to 2021.
Di Hu
Di was a phd student in Biostatistics Department at UNC-CH. She worked with Dr. Wu in identifying regional resilience effect of amyloid and tau biomarker from 2020 to 2021.

Dr. Zu was a visiting student in ACM lab from 2015 to 2016. He deveoped a motif-based method for discovering connectome biomarkers for neurodisease.

Dr. Dong was a postdoc at ACM lab from 2015 to 2018. He is interested in hypergraph techniques with the application in multi-atlas segmentation.

Dr. Chen was a visiting student at ACM lab from 2018 to 2019. He is working with Dr. Wu in developing harmonic network analysis approaches.
Amr Moussa
Amr Moussa was a Research Assistant in ACM lab from 2016 to 2018. Amr was a software developer that specializes in 3D rendering techniques and hardware acceleration.

Dr. Yang was a visiting scholar in ACM lab from 2018 to 2020. He worked on hub identification methods when he was in UNC.
